Benjamin Obdyke, a leading supplier of high-performance building envelope products, is pleased to announce that its VaporDry SA roofing underlayment qualifies for use as a component of a FORTIFIED-eligible roof system.

FORTIFIED Home is a nationally recognized building method developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) to promote resilient construction practices. An IBHS FORTIFIED Roof is specifically designed to prevent damage that commonly occurs during high winds, hurricanes, hailstorms, and severe thunderstorms.

“Improving the ability of our nation’s homes to withstand severe weather is critical to protecting what is priceless and strengthening our communities,” said Fred Malik, Director of FORTIFIED Programs at IBHS. “From the roof to the foundation, FORTIFIED Home allies are leading the way by making the homes where we live stronger, safer, and more durable.”

VaporDry SA, one of the industry’s first self-adhered, vapor-permeable roofing membranes, helps interior moisture to migrate out of the roof system to increase drying potential to reduce the likelihood of long-term issues and premature roof failure. VaporDry SA features a continuous acrylic adhesive that self-seals around roofing fasteners, allowing the membrane to serve as an air-control layer in addition to a moisture-control layer. The membrane’s tri-laminate structure is durable under foot traffic, and a reinforcement scrim in the adhesive provides for more tensile strength.

“A FORTIFIED Roof provides homeowners with greater peace of mind that their roof will weather the next storm, and we’re honored to be a part of those efforts and join IBHS in making our communities more resilient,” said Tara Murray, Director of Marketing for Benjamin Obdyke. “With its combination of vapor permeability, self-sealing adhesive, and durability, VaporDry SA is an ideal component under any roofing material, providing protection against moisture damage and air infiltration.”

VaporDry SA is qualified for use as a component of a FORTIFIED-eligible roof system. Use of this product does not guarantee a FORTIFIED designation. To be eligible for a FORTIFIED designation, a complete roofing system (components and accessories) must meet the requirements detailed in the FORTIFIED Home Standard and be installed by a certified FORTIFIED Roofing Contractor. Products that are required to meet the standard include but may not be limited to: roof coverings, attic ventilation components, a qualified sealed roof deck system, roof underlayments, edge metal, and appropriate fasteners for all mechanically fastened components. Documentation for all products and their installation is required. Additional requirements, eligibility criteria and restrictions apply. See the current FORTIFIED Home standard at https://fortifiedhome.org/technical-documents/ for details. For more information, visit benjaminobdyke.com.
