Location: Gloucester, Mass.
Position: Operations Manager • Building Center

How did you begin your career in the LBM industry?

I started my career in the LBM industry doing construction with my father. After a few years, I took a position in the yard with Building Center. Over the past 13 years, I’ve worked my way up, in just about every part of the business, gaining hands-on experience. I didn’t wait for the perfect role—I leaned into the work, learned from every department, and used that foundation to grow into a leadership position.

What are some of the responsibilities of your position?

As operations manager at Building Center, I oversee the day-to-day functions that help keep the business running smoothly—from logistics and staffing to customer service and vendor relationships. But beyond that, I’m focused onmaintaining our momentum as we’ve achieved eight consecutive years of record sales. That means building a culture that people believe in, empowering teams, and always looking for new ways to improve.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your career?

When starting out, it was a challenge to be taken seriously by the previous generations, they underestimated the “kid.” I took this as an opportunity to prove my stuff and continued to learn everything I could, trying to anticipate what they would need next before they could and offering it up

What have you learned since working in the industry?

Now, navigating change—whether it’s economic shifts, supply chain issues, or labor shortages—is one of the biggest challenges. But it’s also where the opportunity lies. Keeping the team engaged and solutions-focused while we work through those challenges has been key. Another ongoing challenge is helping people see the value and opportunity in this industry, especially the younger generation.

What advice would you give to anyone new to the industry?

I’ve learned that success in this industry is about people first. Whether it’s your team, your vendors, or your customers, relationships and trust are everything, and every relationship is different. I’ve also learned that culture is contagious. When you lead with a “can-do” attitude and back it up with results, people get on board, and amazing things happen.

Be curious and say yes to everything you can. The more you immerse yourself, the more you’ll learn and the faster you’ll grow. This is an industry that rewards effort, attitude, and collaboration. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek out mentors, and get your hands dirty — there’s a ton of opportunity here for those who are willing to show up.

What are your passions outside of the office?

Outside of work, I love to spend time with my fiancée, Allie, and our dogs or try a new restaurant. To wind down, a couch and gaming does the trick.
