2025 EBMDA John-Tyler “Adam” Dawes Memorial Scholarship

John-Tyler Adam Dawes, known to his family and friends as Adam, 27, passed away suddenly on Sunday evening, February 12th, 2023. He was the loving son of Dr. Donald D. and Catherine L. Dawes of Bernville.

Adam was born in Neptune, NJ on November 8, 1995, he was a 2014 graduate of Delaware County Christian School before starting his education at Messiah College in 2015. After three major changes, Adam settled on education and graduated in 2019 with his bachelor’s in education. He was very active in his churches, Hope Philly in Exton and Bethany Evangelical Presbyterian in Havertown. A leader in the Youth Group at church, he was also a YMCA of the USA Camp Counselor from 2014 to 2018, a role he cherished. Adam was a teacher in the Carlisle Area School District at Lamberton Middle School teaching science to fifth and sixth graders. From August 2020 to his passing, Adam was employed as a purchasing and showroom manager with Beatty Lumber and Millwork Co. in Upper Darby. He was the NYLE Trustee on the EBMDA board and acting secretary. Adam did everything with a smile and 100% effort. He had a true zest for life with an energetic and magnetic personality. The EBMDA board was honored to know him and celebrate his life with this memorial scholarship.

PURPOSE:

1. To award up to ten (10) $1,500 merit scholarships for post-secondary education.
2. To cultivate future leaders and dedicated employees for the building industry.
3. To instill an interest and awareness of the building material industry, as well as the Eastern Building Material Dealers Association and its          importance in the LBM industry.

ELIGIBILITY:

1. Be an employee or a dependent of an employee of an EBMDA member at the time of awarding of the scholarship.
2. Must have maintained a minimum of 2.5 equivalent GPA in high school or college in the past year.
3. Must be enrolling in or currently attending a post-secondary college or technical school as a full-time or part-time student.

EVALUATION PROCESS:

The EBMDA John-Tyler Adam Dawes Scholarship Fund Committee will review all applications. The top ten (10) applicants may be subject to an interview with the committee and EBMDA president.
The final selection and winners will be selected by August 31.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Complete the Application Form.
2. Prepare an essay specifically indicating your scholastic potential, your academic and professional interests, the impact the lumber industry has had on you, and your reasons for deserving this award. You are also encouraged to include other applicable information, such as financial need, special accomplishments and awards, and/or pertinent experience. Please include any information that will assist the scholarship committee in making its decision.
3. Upload a copy of your scholastic record (transcript).
4. Although not mandatory, you are invited to submit additional materials, such as recent academic letters of recommendation, etc.
5. Complete Application Form and all corresponding documentation by July 31, 2025.

Applications will only be reviewed upon full completion.
