Frederick “Fred” Norman Indermaur, a highly respected leader in the lumber and building materials industry, passed away at the age of 87 on February 11, 2025 at home in Port Charlotte, Fla. after a long illness. He is fondly remembered for his 22 years of dedicated service as a Regional Director of the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association (NRLA), a role he held with great distinction until his retirement in June of 1997.

Throughout his career, Fred earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues, both within the NRLA and the members of the Lumber Dealers’ Association of Connecticut (LDAC), the Rhode Island Lumber and Building Materials Dealers Association (RILBMDA), the Massachusetts Retail Lumber Dealers Association (MRLDA), and the Long Island Lumber Association (LILA).

His leadership and commitment to the industry was exceptional, and his influence extended beyond the regional scope, leaving a lasting impact on the NRLA.

Fred often credited the people in the lumber and building materials industry for the success and longevity of his career. In his acceptance speech for the 1997 LDAC Lumber Person of the Year Award, he remarked, “As an industry, the people are the best I’ve ever met.”

Fred’s generosity extended beyond words; on one occasion, he quietly covered the membership dues for a company facing difficult times, demonstrating his unwavering support for the association and its members. Fred will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Fred is survived by Barbara (Bobbie) Indermaur and brother, Robert Indermaur (Peg). His children James Indermaur (Mary), Elizabeth Thomas (Scott), and Douglas Indermaur (Jennifer). His grandchildren Spencer and Connor Indermaur, Michaela Shorts (Jeffrey), and Nikole Indermaur; and his great-grandchildren Lincoln, Kashton, and Wrenley Shorts.

Condolences may be sent to Barbara at 3460 Bay Ridge Highway, Port Charlotte, Florida 33953. Memorial services will be private and at the discretion of the family.  Fred’s full obituary and memorial information can be found here.
