Mike Bindler began his career in the lumber industry at the young age of 12, working part-time in the family business, St. Albans Lumber in Queens, N.Y. His father purchased Macrose Lumber’s first yard in 1952, which became St. Albans Lumber, and together they expanded by acquiring Macrose Valley Stream in 1976, later known as Valbrook Lumber. Over the years, Mike also worked with Slater Lumber in California and East Islip Lumber, building a career marked by dedication and growth within the industry.

Born in Elmont, N.Y., Mike grew up with the values of hard work and family as the center of his life. He later earned a B.S. degree from SUNY Stony Brook. Mike is forever proud of his wonderful family: his parents, Phyllis and Gene; his wife, Linda; his son, Daniel, married to Nicole, with grandchildren Ella (10) and Caleb (7); his daughter, Corey, married to Chris, with grandchildren Miles (7) and Cassidy (4); and his sister, Ellen.

Beyond the industry, Mike has a deep love of history, with a particular interest in past presidents and the ways in which great people have influenced countries around the world. His philosophy of life is simple yet powerful: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Reflecting on his lifelong involvement in lumber, Mike notes that while the industry is ever-changing, it remains a steady cornerstone of the economy. To those who follow, he offers this encouragement: “Stay engaged, stay aware, and embrace the continual changes that shape this remarkable industry.”
