The Rhode Island Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (RILBMDA) honored Steve Carreira of Humphrey’s Building Supply as its Lumber Person of the Year at its Holiday Party and Annual Meeting on November 21, 2025, at the Newport Marriott in Newport, R.I.

After an energetic cocktail reception, Carreira, as outgoing RILBMDA president, convened a brief business meeting during which the 2025-2026 Board of Directors was elected. Guests then heard remarks from incoming President Evan Finnegan of Finetco-Coventry Lumber and NRLA President Rita Ferris. After dinner, Scott Humphrey took to the podium to honor Carreira, who gave passionate remarks in acceptance of the award, including a humorous reminiscence about getting himself psyched up for his first ABMA Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C., by cranking up “The Man” by Aloe Blacc! Fittingly, Carreira was indeed “the man” of the hour as he received a thunderous standing ovation at the end of his remarks.

RILBMDA once again solicited donations for the Rhode Island Food Bank leading up to and during the Holiday Party. Through the generosity of the membership, RILBMDA was able to raise $2,610 for the food bank this year, besting last year’s mark of $2,070.

Following the ceremony, the celebration continued in various locations across the fabulously decorated city of Newport.
