New Jersey State Legislators Tour Builders’ General Supply Company’s Direct Millwork Facility

Washington, N.J. – On Friday, October 11, Builders’ General Supply Company welcomed New Jersey legislators to their Direct Millwork location from the 23rd district for a yard tour, where members of the Assembly and Senate gathered to engage with the local business community and learn more about the company’s operations. The event, which took place at Builders’ General Supply Company’s Direct Millwork’s facility located at 256 Belvidere Ave, Washington, N.J., ran from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and provided an opportunity for meaningful discussions about the impact of local policies on small businesses in Warren County.

Steinhardt, R-N.J.; Assemblyman John DiMaio, R-N.J.; and Kevin Kuchova, co-manager of Direct Millwork, pose outside the facilities during a yard tour at Direct Millwork in Washington, N.J., on Oct. 11, 2024.

The visit marked a significant moment for Direct Millwork, bringing together the full legislative delegation representing the 23rd district in one place. Assemblyman John DiMaio (R), Assemblyman Erik Peterson (R), and Senator Doug J. Steinhardt (R) all participated in the tour, engaging with the Direct Millwork team and discussing the company’s role in the local community. Their presence underscored the importance of fostering strong connections between local businesses and their elected representatives.

Senator Douglas J. Steinhardt praised the company, stating, “Builders General Supply Company is an industry leader and innovator. Their commitment to quality and customer service enables them to thrive, even in difficult economic times. The 23rd legislative district is proud to be their home.”

Co-managers Kevin Kuchova and Tom Snyder, who co-founded Direct Millwork in 2010 after Warren Lumber closed its doors, led the tour. They shared the company’s inspiring story of resilience and growth, having started with just three employees (including themselves) and scaling up to over 30 employees today. After a decade of growth, the company was acquired in 2020 by Builders’ General Supply Company, based in Little Silver, N.J., expanding its reach and product offerings to include a wide array of custom doors, millwork, and fire-rated products. Through Builders’ General, Direct Millwork now offers access to a broader product portfolio, including lumber, decking, windows, cabinets, and more.

“It was very rewarding to share our success with our State Senator and our local Assemblymen who offered their support as we navigate the current business climate,” said co-founder Kevin Kuchova. “They understood the challenges we face of attracting employees, current and pending regulations, and the potential fallout from many Green Initiatives. It was also a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are to have been acquired by Builders’ General Supply Company. Direct Millwork’s growth has been facilitated by an expanded product offering as well as all the benefits associated with a strong and well-established company that built its reputation on quality and service since 1931.”

TJ Shaheen, representing Builders’ General Supply Company, praised the event’s turnout, noting that the presence of all three legislators highlighted the importance of fostering relationships between local businesses and elected officials. “Direct Millwork has a fantastic story of resilience and innovation,” Shaheen said. “Bringing legislators here today to see firsthand the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into their products helps reinforce the value of supporting local enterprises.”
