Frank Gring’s distinguished 35-year career in the lumber industry began humbly in 1983, working in the BROSCO Andover shop while attending Gettysburg College. After graduating in 1987, Frank fully immersed himself in the industry, accepting a position at Brosco’s Portland facility in 1988—an opportunity extended by his uncle and lifelong mentor, Howie Smith. Over the decades, Frank took on numerous roles at Brosco, including eight years as a territory manager before becoming Promotion Manager, where he applied his passion for marketing and communication.

Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Frank Gring is congratulated by Chris French (both retired, BROSCO).
A dedicated advocate for the lumber industry, Frank served on the NRLA Convention and Education Committees and was twice appointed to the board of the Massachusetts Retail Lumber Dealers Association. He also volunteered on the Legislative Committee, helping to shape policy and support local dealers. His leadership extended nationally when he was selected to mentor the next generation of industry professionals through the NYLE program, a role he cherished.
Frank’s deep roots in the lumber world trace back generations. His father was the great-grandson of Frank McQuesten, founder of the George McQuesten Lumber Co., and his mother was the granddaughter of C. Fred Smith, founder of Brockway-Smith. These family legacies instilled in Frank a respect for tradition, craftsmanship, and industry innovation.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Frank is a devoted family man. He met his wife Molly in Hilton Head, South Carolina, in 1988. Together, they’ve built a life filled with love and pride in their three children—Sydney, Trey, and Abigail—and one grandson, Ambrosio. He credits his parents for shaping his core values: humility, integrity, and commitment to making meaningful first impressions.
Frank is an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in sailing, waterskiing, scuba diving, golf, classic cars, and firearms. Since retiring, he’s remained active through his support of Tabor Academy and volunteer work with the Phoenix Zoo.
Throughout his career and life, Frank has been guided by the belief in kindness, understanding, and the strength of family bonds. His legacy in the lumber industry is one of dedication, mentorship, and leadership, making him a truly deserving recipient of the MRLDA Lifetime Achievement Award.
