Location: Tinton Falls, NJ
Position: Outside Sales Representative • Builders’ General Supply

How did you begin your career in the LBM industry?

My career in LBM began in 2009, where I worked as an inside sales associate at 84 Lumber. Then, in 2011, I was given the opportunity to join the Builders’ General Supply team as a counter sales associate. Two years later, they promoted me to work in the sales processing department, where I handled orders and estimates for the outside sales team. After a few years, I became the window department manager and subsequently the sales processing manager. I received a promotion to Outside Sales in the fall of 2023, and I currently hold this role.

What are some of the responsibilities of your position?

In addition to selling, I provide an excellent customer service experience, not just a transactional one.
I build long-lasting relationships by bringing tremendous value to the table. In addition, I work on prospecting, account management, business development, and staying up-to-date on the latest products and services in the building industry.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your career?

I would say a big challenge is acquiring new business as a salesperson. This can be a bit frustrating at times, but I enjoy the challenge. Also, since I’m on the road a lot, seeing emails stack up is always “fun.”

What have you learned since working in the industry?

I have learned a great deal of product knowledge regarding building supplies. More importantly, I have learned to be humble and to stay close to high performers and learn their way—they have so much wisdom to share.

What advice would you give to anyone new to the industry?

Leave your ego at the door. Find a mentor or two. Write things down. Read books and articles, and consume as much information as you can. Learn to treat people with respect. Be humble. There is so much opportunity in our industry if you have the right mindset.

What are your passions outside of the office?

I do CrossFit at Foundry in Little Silver, N.J., at least four to five times per week and run a few miles at least once per week. I also love to travel with my wife and daughter. We have been all over the world.
