The Temperate Forest Foundation (TFF) is a 501 c (3) tax-exempt, non-profit, public charity committed to educating the public about our sustainable forest resources and their effect on people and quality of life. We feel that the most effective way to do that is to educate the teachers who will be teaching future generations of citizens, voters, and employees to make informed decisions about sustainable forestry issues.
The Foundation provides leadership through public education, including its annual teachers' tours. For the past few years, one of the regional tours has occurred in the Northeast. This year, the Northeastern regional tour is being held in Catskill, New York. The 2008 tour is August 5-8, 2008. NRLA endorses this tour and encourages NRLA members to consider sponsoring a teacher for this four-day event. Sponsorship of teachers is $700 per person. Every teacher on the tour will receive the TFF Education Kit, a teaching tool for the classroom that helps educate students about the social, economic, and ecological issues surrounding the many uses of the forest. Each kit includes maps, posters, videos, copies of the Foundation's newsletter, Eco-Links, cones, tree cookies, pulp samples and samples of various engineered wood products.
